Chicken bunker yay!

We made a lot of progress on the expanded chicken coop this weekend! Its name is now Chicken Bunker, on account of how cozy and built-into-the-hill it is. All that’s left to do is get the roof on and wire up the sides, which is only a few more hours of work. The old coop will need mucked out and composted, and the whole thing re-lined with hay, and then we can deploy the chickens! We are well ahead of schedule to have it finished before we go to the Tilth conference; now I don’t feel bad about asking the neighbors to check on the critters, as they will all be in one place and will not need to be let out and put away.

Last weekend I broke my glasses, but I got new ones!

Very cute! Are they prodesign? (That’s the old optician geek in me.)

  • They are! Good eye! :)

  • I’m not an old optician… so I’ll comment on the Chicken Bunker (though the tomato’s a cute pic!). Great add-on, now the chickens will be able to roam! But is that a bush in the middle? Is is going to stay there or is it going to be removed? Just curious because it would be a pain in the rear to remove after it’s built.

Great work! And the Tilth Conference looks cool. Enjoy!

  • Yeah, we are going to leave the stump there, for an interesting landscape for the chickens. We might build them a treehouse, use it to anchor another perch, etc.

  • I just want you to know that I just started wearing glasses for the first time a few days ago, and that carrot has the same glasses I have! How funny. ; )
