Eggs!

The chickens started laying about ten days ago. We have some ideas who’s laying, and I’m not sure it’s all of them. We built a little platform and put some Rubbermaid tubs on it, for nest boxes, but the chickens go under the platform — the gap is only about 4 inches — and lay underneath. So we have to go in a team to collect eggs, and one person lifts one end of the chicken tractor while the other rummages underneath.
So far we have had exactly one dozen eggs. The first one was funny and capsule-shaped, and turned out to have two yolks. The rest have been mostly regularly egg-shaped, but smallish; I tried to take a picture just now but my camera is crashy, so maybe I will add one if it comes back to life.

Ah fresh eggs. I love eggs. My cholesterol doesn’t though. If I had my own I’d double up my meds and tough it out. hehe.
So you have a chicken tractor! Is that Patti the Garden Girl’s tractor? I watched the 6-part series in awe and I don’t even have chickens!
Sure hope you find time to post more. Gotta love a farmer on Bainbridge!
Eggs! Yay! Did you ever get the beehive up & running?
Well, well, well…nice blog! It is exciting to know you all are farmers! There are not too many of us young uns out there. We are gathering next Tuesday night at the Norm Dicks Center in lovely (;)) Bremerton at 7 to discuss farming…please come. It is the Kitsap County Ag Alliance’s monthly meeting. I am excited about the chickens…mostly because they will be gone and in various freezers…much easier to care for! And I am so excited to share with you the experience…sounds weird..but, be prepared to learn ALOT! Well, I am taking off the farmer field hat and putting on the mommy hat…see you soon!
Double yolk? Lucky!!! I have been watching and waiting and we’ve never got one. I remember getting them all the time in store-bought eggs when I was a kid.
